SUPPORT GROUPS, TOURS, INFORMATION & MEETING SCHEDULESAdult Bereavement Support Group For information about on-going bereavement support groups in the Snellville area, please call Pastoral Services at 770-736-2478. Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group - Meets the second Thursday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at the Emory Eastside Heritage Center Conference Room, 2nd floor. Baby Signs® ClassesBaby Sign Language Classes: Designed for expectant parents and parents of children from birth to 36 months old. Taught by Baby Signs® Certified Instructor, Melody Haynes Parent Workshop: A one-time class to teach you all you need to know to begin using Baby Signs® at home. Early childhood educators, parent educators, social workers and health specialists are also welcome to attend. Sign, Say, & Play: A 6-week Baby Signs® play class program for parents and their babies. Fun games, songs, and activities highlight important developmental skills and introduce families to many of the most popular signs. For more information and to register for Baby Signs® classes please call: 404-475-8124 or visit: www.melodysigns.com Better Birth ClassesThe Better Birth Foundation offers a variety of childbirth education classes designed to help families make a smoother transition to parenthood: Childbirth Preparation: A 12-hour course offered once weekly for 6 weeks, 3 hours for 4 weeks or all in one weekend. Childbirth Preparation Refresher: A series of four, 2-hour classes. Motherlore-Post-partum Class for Mothers & Babies: One day each week for four weeks. Infant Safety & CPR Class: a two and a half hour class for expectant parents and parents with newborns. Breastfeeding Class: A one time 3-hour class for mom and a support person All instructors are registered nurses and are certified by Better Birth's Certification Program. You may call for information and to register for these classes at 770-297-2880, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am- 4:30 pm. Big Brother/Big Sister Classes (Sibling Classes)The Big Brothers/Big Sisters Class offers classes for the older siblings of the new baby. It prepares children aged 3 through 10 for the new family addition. The one-hour class is free, but space is limited. Registration is required--call 770-972-7570 to sign up. Breastfeeding ClassesClasses meet the third Thursday of each month. These classes cost $15.00 and are located in classroom 3 on the fourth floor of Emory Eastside Medical Center. Meets from 10 am till 11 am, in Classroom 2 on first floor of Emory Eastside Medical Center. Drop-ins are welcome. Bring your baby and a blanket. Call the Lactation Line at 770-736-2264 for more information. Breast HealthBreast Center Resource Boutique: A resource boutique devoted to the breast health needs of women and breast cancer recovery. Products from Pretty Please such as post mastectomy bras, prosthesis and much more are displayed along with information on filing insurance for these products. Free breast health information from the American Cancer Society is also available. A warm, feminine atmosphere will make you feel comfortable and secure. The boutique is open Monday Friday 7:00am 5:00pm. Emory Eastside Breast Health Facilitator: Susan Little, RN and breast cancer survivor, is available for support when dealing with treatment and recovering from breast cancer. Support GroupsLook Good/Feel Better: American Cancer Society Program - Addressing the needs of survivors experiencing changes from chemotherapy and radiation treatments. A cosmetologist personally demonstrates make-up, hair and turban techniques in a small group setting. Free make-up kits are provided, donated by local cosmetic companies. Call the American Cancer Society at 770-814-0123 to register. Cancer Support Group: Meets at the Emory Eastside Physicians Center. Call Patti Fehlig, MSW, LCSW, 770-979-7914. Cholesterol Health Screening: Emory Eastside Medical Center and Health, Happiness, You co-sponsor monthly health screenings. This screening is an affordable way to keep close check on your blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Please visit their web site for exact date and location by clicking here. The public is invited to participate. The health screening includes free blood pressure screening. Cholesterol screening will be available for $5.00 and a Fasting Blood Sugar screening is $3.80. The Total Lipid Profile screening is $17.80. You must fast from 8:00 p.m. the night before the test. If you are taking prescription medication, you may take it with a sip of water. You must be 18 years of age or older to participate. No appointment is necessary for the lab tests. A copy of the results will be mailed directly to you and your physician at no extra charge. Bring your physician's name and address with you. Please wear short sleeves. Your social security number will be needed for identification for this testing. Diabetes Support Group: Emory Eastside Medical Center and the Diabetes Association of Georgia co-sponsor a Diabetes Support Group for those individuals with diabetes. The group meets at 7:30 p.m., at Emory Eastside Medical Center, Classroom 1, on the fourth Thursday of each month, unless otherwise noted. Diabetic Education: Outpatient, individualized education provided by a Certified Diabetic Educator and Clinical Dietitian. You must have a physicians written order for these sessions.
