Geriatric Psychiatry: Senior Mental Health Unit

Our mission is to restore the ability of adults to live and function as fully as possible and to adapt to the complexities of aging.

Adult and geriatric psychiatry is offered at Eastside Medical Center on the Eastside Heritage Center campus off Highway 78 on Fountain Drive in Snellville. This inpatient program is a comprehensive, psychiatrist-supervised service for adults who are suffering from emotional or behavioral problems.

The skilled professionals at the BHC can help patients and their family members who are struggling with problems such as confusion, depression, memory loss, mood swings, anxiety, frequent medical problems, withdrawal or isolation from others and suicidal thoughts. The individualized treatment addresses the psychiatric, medical and social aspects of these concerns.

Individualized treatment plans are designed to meet each patient's specific needs. The program is also designed to support family members, and to educate them on how they can be part of the ongoing treatment process.

The Behavioral Health Inpatient Program team is comprised of highly trained professional led by board-certified geriatric psychiatrists. An integrated, personalized, intensive treatment plan includes the following:

• Comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment
• Individual and group counseling
• Therapies including occupational, physical, speech, and respiratory
• Activity therapy
• Nutritional counseling
• Medication education
• Family counseling
• Aftercare support
• Extensive discharge planning
• Chaplaincy services
• Medical support

Our clinical team can assess the severity of the problem and recommend a course of action at no charge. The Behavioral Mental Health Program staff are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer your questions. This program is covered, in whole or part, by most health care plans including Medicare, but excluding Medicare HMO's.
